Rather than masking the issue with some sort of supplement (not that there are any really good ones out there for this), I'd be more concerned with figuring out what the problem is.
Going to a good physio or chiro could do him a world of good. Does he exercise? |

I agree with Steve in find the source of the problem. For myself, I like to use Chrontin (msp) w/ Glucosamine to help with joints. Personally, I use it on/off whenever I use my legs a lot like playing basketball or excessive hiking.

Glucosamine and/or MSM and/or Chondroitin
Nowadays you can get a "joint support formula" or similar with all 3. Whether they'll actually do anything at all for an individual, however, is in the stars. And if they do, and not it's not placebo, you'll still see far more benefit from figuring out what's wrong and fixing it. So, Steve's questions. |

He should get his knees checked out by a specialist, which would be my first course of action
![]() Some people do well with glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM or a combination thereof and some people notice no difference whatsoever. It depends on what is going on in the joint itself.

![]() With knees, the first thing most therapists do is check to see how much muscle tissue the person has to support their knee joint. Often times, leg workouts will ameliorate many knee pain issues. There is a possibility that he has simply overused his knees and they are complaining, in which case anti-inflammatories may help. But I'd still want to know WHY my knees were hurting, no matter how young/old I am and only a professional can make a definitive diagnosis.

One more thing, if you take glucosamine and a diabetic; monitor your blood sugar level like a hawk while making your doctor aware of this.
